IDPs protest

By Modupe Gbadeyanka

Some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) staged a peaceful protest in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Thursday, demanding for better treatments from the Nigerian government.

The protesters claimed the government has abandoned them in their camps to face untold hardship.

It will be recalled that the IDP camps were established by the government to accommodate those chased out from the homes by Boko Haram activities.

The protesters blocked the major road into the city, while security operatives had a difficult time controlling them.

They claimed their children were almost dying due to starvation and have no good medical care. They urged the government to have compassion on them before hunger wipe them out of the face of the earth.

The demonstrators were mainly women and children and looked visibly angry all through the protest.
