Reports reaching our news desk reveal that two explosions have taken place in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
The twin blasts occurred on Sunday, December 11, 2016 in quick succession.
According to reports, the explosions happened near Old NEPA office, which is few metres away from Monday market, the city’s major marketplace.
Details of the blasts, which occurred at about 8:30am, were still very sketchy, but there are reports that several people were killed and injured.
As at the time of filing this report, rescue efforts were still ongoing, while security operatives have condoned off the area.
Today’s explosions come some hours after two suicide bombers attacked a market in Madagali, Adamawa State, killing dozens of people.
Business Post recalls that few days ago, Borno State Governor, Mr Kashim Shetimma, boasted that Maiduguri was now safer than Lagos, Abuja and most state capitals in the country.
