Two of the 18 nominees sent to the Lagos State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as Commissioners under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu have been rejected.
A statement issued on Thursday by Mr Eromosele Ebhomele, the Media Assistant to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, disclosed that only 15 of the nominees were confirmed by the state parliament, while the confirmation of one nominee was postponed.
The statement said those confirmed were Dr Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen, Mr Oluwaseun Oriyomi Osiyemi, Prof. Akinola Emmanuel Abayomi, Dr Oluwarotimi Omotola Wahab Fashola, Mrs Folashade Kaosarat Ambrose-Medem, Mrs Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, and Mrs Bolaji Cécilia Dada.
Others were Mrs Barakat Akande Bakare, Mr Olugbenga Omotosho, Mr Mosopefoluwa George, Dr Yekini Nurudeen Agbaje, Dr Olumide Oluyinka, Mr Abayomi Samson Oluyomi, Dr Iyabode Oyeyemi Ayoola, and Sola Shakirudeen Giwa.
Mr Ebhomele disclosed that the nominees were confirmed yesterday after Chief Whip and Chairman of the Screening Committee, Mr Mojeed Fatai, laid a report of the exercise before his colleagues.
At a sitting presided over by the Speaker, the lawmakers rejected Engr Olalere Odusote, and Mr Samuel Egube. They did not give reasons for this action.
However, the House resolved to step down the confirmation of Tolani Sule Akibu for another day.
Mr Obasa, commended the committee for a job well done, saying the members did a thorough job screening the nominees. His position was supported by the lawmakers present at the plenary.
Recall that some days ago, the Lagos Assembly rejected the nominees of Mr Sanwo-Olu, sparking rumours that there were issues between the executive and the legislative arms of government in the state.
The Governance Advisory Council (GAC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state had to quickly intervene and reconcile both parties.
