The recently launched Masks for All Nigerians Campaign of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) has received a boost.

A renowned law firm, Babalakin & Co Legal Practitioners, on Wednesday, June 23, 2020, distributed some non-medical face masks to the Ikoyi Custodial Centre, Nigerian Correctional Service, Lagos.

The materials were shared to the facility to support the efforts of the federal government to contain the spread of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country.

Last month, the NSE announced a donation of N100 million to support the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.

From the N100 million, it gave N60 million to the Capital Market Support Committee for COVID-19 (CMSCC), while the balance of N40 million was earmarked for the Masks for All Nigerians campaign.

When the initiative was inaugurated, the exchange said it will work to donate over 100,000 reusable face masks to states most affected by the contagion.

Yesterday, the scheme received a boost from Babalakin & Co Legal Practitioners, who donated the non-medical face mask under the NSE Masks for All Nigerians Campaign.

Representatives of the law company led by Ms Mabel Okekere and accompanied by the Head of Corporate Communications at the exchange, Mr Olumide Orojimi, were at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre to present the items.

The face masks were received by the Deputy Controller of Corrections of the facility, Mr Opadeji Dare Ayoola, as well as the Assistant Controller of Corrections of the Ikoyi Custodial Centre, Mr Aremu Adegboyega.

Mr Ayoola thanked the law organisation for the donation and commended the exchange for coming up with the initiative. He assured that the items would be judiciously used.

During the launch of the scheme in May 2020, the CEO of the NSE, Mr Oscar Onyema, had stated that, “In line with our tradition of supporting the communities where we operate, we have launched the Masks for All Nigerians campaign to ensure that protective masks get into the hands of citizens in the more vulnerable places.

“Through our media enlightenment engagement, we will raise awareness on the proper use of masks, continue to encourage adherence to the guidelines that have been provided by relevant agencies and emphasise that wearing of masks alone is not enough protective measure against COVID-19.”
