To celebrate the 15 years of existence of the Google Street View, Google Maps has revealed the Top Points of Interest in Nigeria in the last 12 months.

According to the platform, the major places of interest were the Bariga Waterfront Jetty, Nike Art Gallery, Lekki Conservation Centre, the University of Ibadan and the University of Benin.

It also announced the most clicked beach in Nigeria over the past year and on the log are Oniru Beach Resort, Elegushi Royal Beach and Marwa Beach, all located in Lagos State.

As for the most clicked on museums in Nigeria in the period under review, the National Museum in Benin City, Edo State, famous for its terracotta, bronze and cast iron artefacts related to the Benin Empire, was on top.

Also on the list are the National War Museum in Umuahia, Abia State which showcases the military history of Nigeria with relics from the Biafra-Nigerian Civil War and Kalakuta Museum in Ikeja, Lagos which preserves the artefacts of the legendary King of Afrobeat, Fela Kuti.

Globally, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, received the most clicks for any other place of interest, followed by the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France and the Taj Mahal in India.

Since it launched 15 years ago, the Google Street View has expanded to more than 100 countries and territories around the world and captured more than 10 million miles of imagery–a distance that could circle the globe more than 400 times!

In 2012, it went underwater to capture the Great Barrier Reef and three years later, it became available in VR and in 2017, it explored the ‘Top of the World’ in Canada.
