An update reaching us concerning Saturday’s early morning twin bomb explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State, has it that nine persons have been killed, while 24 others seriously injured.

The two blasts occurred along the Maiduguri Damboa road.

According to an eyewitness report, the explosions were carried out by suspected suicide bombers wearing IED belts.

For now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but there are strong indications that members of Boko Haram were behind the explosions.

The first blast occurred at the Bakassi IDP camp, while the second took place almost immediately at the NNPC Depot on Damboa Road.

Rescue efforts are still ongoing, while the areas have been condoned off by security officials.

Meanwhile, officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Maiduguri have reportedly evacuated wounded victims, taking them to hospitals for treatment while the dead bodies have been deposited in the mortuary.
