The recently kidnapped school girls at the Government Girls Science and Technology College in Dapchi, Yobe State, have been released by their abductors.
The girls were seized by Boko Haram terrorists at their dormitory few weeks ago.
According to Stephanie Hegarty, a journalist with BBC, who confirmed this information on Wednesday morning, the school girls regained their freedom today.
“Calls from Dapchi telling me Boko Haram has returned with the kidnapped girls. Five may have died,” she said on her Twitter handle.
Also, Sahara Reporters confirmed the news when it wrote on its Twitter page this morning that, “Boko Haram has reportedly returned all kidnapped #DapchiGirls back to Dapchi township in Yobe. Unfortunately, five of them are dead.”
Information revealed that the Islamist militant group returned the 105 girls in nine vehicles to the town.
It was gathered that when the terrorists drove into the town, residents scampered into the bush for fear of another attack.
On a monitored programme by Business Post this morning, a parent of one of the kidnapped girls confirmed the release of the girls by Boko Haram.
However, the parent told Political Platform on Raypower FM that his daughter, Leah, was not released because she refused to adhere to Boko Haram’s condition of converting to Islam.
