The Department of State Services (DSS) on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, arraigned the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, as promised.

He was charged with illegal possession of a firearm by the country’s intelligence gathering agency at a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

When the charges were read to him, the banker pleaded not guilty.

Mr Emefiele was arrested by the secret police last month after he was removed from office by President Bola Tinubu. He was flown to Abuja and kept in custody until the court gave the DSS an ultimatum to either charge him or release him.

Details later.
