A pipeline explosion has reportedly rocked the area of Isheri-Olofin in the Egbe-Idimu Local Council Development Area under the Alimosho area of Lagos State.

The unfortunate incident was said to have occurred at about 7:45am on Thursday.

It is believed that the fire, which is still on as at the time of filing this report, was caused by the illegal activities of vandals in the area. The pipeline reportedly vandalised by the hoodlums belongs to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Business Post understands that residents of Diamond Estate, Lanre, and Gloryland Estate along the Isheri-Igando road are part of those affected by the inferno.

Sources within the area disclosed that the relevant authorities, including the fire service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit, amongst other are currently on the scene to bring the situation under control.

As at the time of filing this report, Business Post could not confirm if there were fatalities, but properties worth millions of Naira have reportedly been consumed by the fire.

This incident is coming months after a similar inferno destroyed properties in the Ijegun area of Lagos State, a community not too far from today’s fire. The incident was also caused by the destruction of pipelines belonging to the state-owned oil agency, NNPC, by hoodlums.

More details to follow.
