President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday asked the Senate to confirm the nomination of Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf for appointment as the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This information was disclosed by the Senate President, Mr Ahmad Lawan, when he read a letter from Mr Buhari on the floor of the red chamber of the National Assembly.

This is coming after Mr Buhari had earlier named Justice Baba-Yusuf as the Acting Chief Judge of the FCT.

It could also be recalled that in August, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, swore in Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf as acting Chief Judge of the FCT Judiciary, alongside five newly appointed Kadis of FCT Sharia Court of Appeal.

He specifically charged Justice Baba Yusuf to conduct the affairs of the FCT judiciary within the ambit of the law, stressing that anything to the contrary will not place him on the right side of history.

“You must not allow the weight of your responsibilities to weigh you down. Your opulent experiences that have spanned several years should easily be deployed to counter any untoward situation in the course of your stewardship,“ he said.

Justice Muhammad also charged the acting Chief Judge and the new Kadis of the Sharia Court of Appeal to rise and operate above primordial sentiment in the discharge of their duties.

He told Justice Baba-Yusuf that as acting Chief Judge of FCT Judiciary, he will definitely be tempted and even intimidated in different ways and guises and advised that he should remain firm and unshaken as good conscience fears no threat.
