Buhari Travels to London for Another Medical Treatment

Nigeria’s President, Mr Muhammadu Buhari, has jetted out of the country to London to meet with his doctors.

The President left the shores of Nigeria on Sunday night after meeting with the 82 Chibok girls released on Saturday by Boko Haram group.

A statement issued on Sunday night by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, stated that Mr Buhari was proceeding to London for “follow-up medical consultation with his doctors.”

He said, “The length of the President’s stay in London will be determined by the doctors. Government will continue to function normally under the able leadership of the Vice President.”

According to Mr Adesina, the President had planned to leave Sunday afternoon, but decided to tarry a bit, due to the arrival of 82 Chibok girls who arrived Abuja earlier in the day.

The statement noted that President Buhari has “transmitted letters about the trip to the Senate and the House of Representatives, in compliance with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution.”

Meanwhile, the President has assured all Nigerians that “there is no cause for worry,” adding that he was “very grateful for the prayers and good wishes of the people, and hopes they would continue to pray for the peace and unity of the nation.”

Earlier this year, the President travelled to London for medical trip and spend over 40 days before returning to Nigeria. Immediately he came back, Mr Buhari had said he would be returning to London anytime soon for another round of treatment.

For some weeks, the President was not seen in public, which caused anxiety in the country.
