Two persons have been apprehended in connection with the registration of fake companies for the purpose of land acquisition and racketeering at the Federal Capital Development Authority.
This information was disclosed by the Registrar-General/CEO of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Mr Hussaini Ishaq Magaji (SAN).
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Mr Magaji said the agency uncovered 189 distinct registered entities involved in this alleged scam.
He said one principal suspect was nabbed along with his accomplice, who he said are helping with an ongoing investigation into the matter.
While informing newsmen of his vision for the CAC, the Registrar General said he was set to improve the playing field for companies in accordance with item 6 of President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.
The CAC chief also spoke on measures being put in place to improve the revenue base of the Commission in line with the provisions of Section 8 of the law establishing the organisation.
He, therefore, said that the commission would explore several means at its disposal, including the enforcement of statutory requirements and obligations on the proprietors of companies.
On his four-point agenda for the agency, Mr Magaji said human capital development and staff welfare would receive priority attention, charging them to be more alive to their responsibilities in order to build a virile institution.
