The China General Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria has refuted claims that a supermarket located within the premises of the Royal Choice Estate, Airport Road, Abuja, prevented Nigerians from entering and patronising the facility.
In a statement on Monday, the Chinese Chamber said the action of the organisation may have been misinterpreted because it is committed to equality and inclusiveness.
“Our principles are to enhance friendship between the people of both countries and promote economic development,” a part of the statement said.
It clarified that the facility is not a supermarket as widely believed, noting that it is a structure comprising an office complex and residential apartments.
The Chamber emphasised that no individual was subjected to discrimination or denied access to the estate or supermarket to purchase groceries as widely believed, adding that the residential area of the estate has privately occupied residents who comply with security protocols in granting access to external visitors.
“The China Chamber of Commerce is one of several enterprises using the facility, and the supermarket in question is located in the residential area of the estate, which is unrelated to the China Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria,” the statement said.
Recall that on Sunday, a video emerged on social media showing Nigerians seeking to purchase groceries in the Chinese supermarket being denied access to the facility.
This sparked outrage and forced the Federal Competition and Consumer and Protection Commission (FCCPC) to seal off the supermarket yesterday.
Officials of the store have been summoned by the agency to a meeting on Wednesday.
And no one dares to say they are somewhat lying ba? There is no reason why go through this kind of sh–t in our own country. I hope they take actions on this.
