The chief executive of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has charged women to leave their comfort zones and participate in opportunities geared towards career and personal goals.

The politician and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) said this at a one-day virtual event organised by a leading developmental investment bank, Dunn Loren Merrifield (DLM).

The webinar was organised to educate and ignite women to challenge the status quo and take practical steps for progress together in celebration of International Women’s Day.

During her presentation, Mrs Dabiri-Erewa said women should aspire to be great in their various endeavours and not be tied down by beliefs that they cannot excel in any particular field.

According to her, “Women can do anything that men can do, if not do more.”

“I, therefore, challenge all women to stop limiting ourselves and encourage gender support because together we can do more,” the former broadcaster declared at the event themed Choose to Challenge Mediocre.

Another speaker at the programme, Ms Juliet Emihuan, who is the Director of Google, West Africa, also charged the female gender not to abdicate their roles in nation-building and to be the change agents for the desired future they envisage.

“Landmark events like IWD give us an opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come, focus on what still needs to be done, and be inspired by the stories of triumph and success by women,” she said.

On the part of the head of DLM Trustees, Ms Lola Razaaq, “Celebrating International Women’s Day is an opportunity to recognize our employees’ successes and to continue the discussion on gender equity.

“In DLM, we are committed to pressing for progress by nurturing a diverse, inclusive environment in which all of our people are empowered to achieve their full potential.”
