Dead Appointees: Buhari Orders Mustapha to Review Boards’ List

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, has been directed to commence the process of review and replacement of those recently appointed into boards of federal government’s agencies.

This directive was given by President Muhammadu Buhari following criticism that trailed the appointment of dead people into boards.

In a chat with Punch, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, said the SFG is to scrutinise the list and ensure it was free of controversy.

According to Mr Shehu, apart from the dead persons, those who have left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) but were included in the list would also be removed.

“Yes, I can confirm to you that the process to replace the dead ones has started. We have listened to the concerns raised.

“The entire list is being scrutinised all over again. They have gone very far and they will be reporting to the President very soon.

“Even after the list was published, one nominee died. They need to take a second look at the entire list.

“There were also complaints about some persons who had left the party but made the list. We are looking at those ones too with a view to replacing them,” he said.

The President came under heavy criticism for the inclusion of at least eight dead persons in the list.

In his defence, Mr Shehu explained that the list was prepared two years ago by the sacked SFG, Mr Babachir Lawal and was never reviewed again by the present SFG.
