The Rivers State Police Command has relieved the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and the Divisional Officer overseeing the Abuloma Police Outpost following reports that suspected cultists renovated the facility.

The command also ordered a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the renovation and allegations that the suspected cultists visited the outpost on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to celebrate the completion of the project.

In a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Kaborlo, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the command said it had taken cognisance of a trending social media report and a circulating video concerning the incident.

The police condemned any action or association capable of compromising the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force or conferring legitimacy, recognition or acceptance on suspected cult groups and other unlawful organisations.

It stressed that police facilities are public institutions established to protect citizens and enforce the law, adding that they must not become platforms through which criminal groups seek public validation or influence.

The command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju, said it maintained zero tolerance for criminality and any conduct that undermines public confidence in the police.

It added that the two officers had been queried and relieved of their duties pending the outcome of the investigation.

The commissioner directed investigators to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and verify the allegations.

The probe will determine the identities and backgrounds of the individuals or groups that financed or facilitated the renovation, identify the officers who authorised or approved the project, and establish whether due procedures were followed.

It will also examine whether any officer breached professional standards or compromised the integrity of the police, as well as the extent of police personnel involvement.

The command said it welcomed legitimate community support for improving police facilities, in line with Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, which provides for gifts and contributions to the Police General Fund.

However, it stressed that such support must not compromise police independence, professional standards or security.

The investigation will also establish whether the necessary approvals were obtained and appropriate checks conducted on those who financed or facilitated the renovation.

The command added that no donation or assistance would confer immunity from investigation or prosecution.

It reiterated that it would not condone unprofessional conduct, compromise or improper association with criminal elements by any police officer, adding that all personnel were expected to uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity and accountability.

The police said they remained committed to professionalism, transparency, the protection of lives and property, and the fight against cultism and organised crime.

It added that appropriate disciplinary and legal action would be taken against anyone found culpable in line with the outcome of the investigation and extant laws.
