President Bola Tinubu was on Sunday re-elected as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of States and Government.
He is to lead the group for another one year after he assumed the position in 2023 at the group’s 63rd Ordinary Session in Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau, shortly after he was sworn in as the President of Nigeria.
Mr Tinubu was unanimously chosen by his fellow Heads of Government at the 65th Ordinary Session of the Authority at the State House in Abuja this afternoon.
His first tenure is expected to expire on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, but with his re-election on Sunday, he will remain in office for another 12 months.
“I have accepted to continue to deliver on this service with the great men and women on this democratic journey, to serve our interest and build democratic values on the structure we inherited,” President Tinubu said in his acceptance speech.
