No fewer than 14 suspected internet fraudsters, commonly known as Yahoo Boys, have been apprehended by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The accused persons were arrested by the anti-money laundering agency in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
A statement from the Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr Dele Oyewale, disclosed that the suspects were picked up in a sting operation along Federal Low-Cost Housing Estate in Makurdi after “actionable intelligence about their suspected involvement in internet fraud.”
He said items recovered from them were phones, laptops and charms, noting that they will soon be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
He listed the names of the accused persons as Austine Okwori, Osita Idoko Valentine, Skott King David, Thomas Ifebuche, Akor Kelvin Oche, Henry Adah, Scott Emmanuel Inalegwu, Ogbu Stephen Alpha, Samuel Moses, Ogbonna Ckukwuaogwu, Mustapha Nasir Adinoye, SylvanusSamuel Ogbu, Emmanuel Adamu and Samuel Otene.
