Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested Commissioner for Finance in Ekiti and the Accountant-General of the state.
The two top officials of the state government were picked up by the anti-graft agency on Thursday, September 28, 2017.
Their arrest came moments after Governor Ayodele Fayose declared his intention in Abuja to contest in the presidential election in 2019.
Mr Fayose, whose tenure as Governor of Ekiti State ends next year, is planning to achieve his ambition under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and has been a very hard critic of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“The duo of the Accountant-General of Ekiti State and Ekiti State Commissioner of Finance have been picked up by the EFCC.
“Their arrest follows their refusal to honour an invitation by the Commission to explain their roles as alleged in a petition in respect of bail-out funds released to the state,” the anti-money laundering agency announced on its Facebook page this evening.
