Tuesday, April 9 and Wednesday, April 10, 2024, have been declared as public holidays by the federal government to mark the end of Ramadan, Eid el-Fitr.
Ramadan is a 30-day fast observed by Muslim faithful across the world. It is a period Muslims get closer to Allah in prayers and supplications.
In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Ms Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, Nigerians practising Islam were urged to imbibe and practice what the religion preaches.
The statement quoted the Minister of Interior, Mr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo as appealing Muslims emulate Prophet Muhammad (SAW), while Nigerians were asked to continue in the spirit of unity to improve and achieve peace and oneness in the country.
He also congratulated “all Muslim Ummah for the successful completion of the fasting in the holy month of Ramadan,” calling on them to “imbibe and practice the virtues that entails kindness, love, tolerance, peace, good neighbourliness.”
The Minister wished “all Muslim Ummah a happy Eid el-Fitr celebration and prayed that the peace, blessings and favour of Allah be with everyone and our great nation.”
