FG Sees Significant Expansion in Gas Industry, Energy Sufficiency

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) Mr Ekperikpe Ekpo, has stated that Nigeria’s first Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility will significantly expand the country’s gas industry and drive energy sufficiency.

Mr Ekpo made this declaration following the recent issuance of a Licence to Construct to UMT Offshore Limited by the Nigerian Midstream Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency (NMDPRA) for the project, located in Akwa Ibom State.

The Minister emphasized that the UTM Offshore FLNG facility is a groundbreaking initiative that represents a major advancement in Nigeria’s gas development

“This groundbreaking initiative represents not only a major advancement in Nigeria’s gas development but also reaffirms our commitment to harnessing natural gas resources for economic growth, energy security, and environmental sustainability.”

The UTM Offshore FLNG facility is designed to process 324 million standard cubic feet per day of natural gas, producing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), condensate, and 2.8 million tonnes of LNG annually.

Mr Ekpo noted that the project was a testament to the government’s dedication to expanding the gas industry and driving Nigeria towards energy self-sufficiency.

“Witnessing the progress of such impactful projects is a testament to the government’s dedication to expanding our gas industry and driving Nigeria towards energy self-sufficiency,” Mr Ekpo added.

The minister expressed optimism that the project will enhance Nigeria’s gas development and contribute to the country’s economic growth, energy security, and environmental sustainability.
