An early morning fire has razed the Akere spare parts market in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State, reports reaching Business Post revealed.

It was gathered that the unfortunate incident, which occurred on Wednesday, destroyed several properties worth millions of Naira.

The spare parts market in the Olodi Apapa area of the metropolis is very popular in Lagos.

It was learned that the inferno started at about 3 am today and affected several shops in the market, which attracts people from various parts of the southern part of Nigeria.

At the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire was still unknown; though there are speculations that it could have been sparked by an electrical surge, this has not been independently verified by this newspaper.

Also, there are rumours that the fire incident happened shortly after people in the vicinity heard gunshots. They alleged that some hoodlums attacked some people in the area and set the market on fire afterwards.

These claims have also not been independently verified by Business Post.
