There was an early morning fire at a petrol station in Ogba, Lagos on Tuesday, destroying some properties on the premises.

It was gathered that the unfortunate incident happened at the Yerevan Oil located on Ajayi Road, Ogba and from the information gathered, a petrol tanker and a few fuel dispensers were burnt by the inferno.

However, the situation has been brought under control, according to the Head of Public Affairs of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Mr Nosa Okunbor.

It was learned that officials of the LASEMA response team and the Lagos State Fire Service swiftly moved to the scene of the fire to put it out and ensured that not much damage was done, especially properties within the area.

On arrival at the petrol filling station this morning, investigations by the LASEMA team revealed that the fire outbreak was caused by spillage from the articulated truck laden with 33,000litres of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS (Petrol).

The leaky valve, which was the source of the inferno, was shut off while blanketing of the truck and entire area is ongoing in order to avert any secondary incident.

In recent times, Lagos has been experiencing fire outbreaks from gas and petrol.

A gas explosion was recorded a few weeks ago at the Iju Ishaga area of the state and another occurred at the Baruwa area of the metropolis.

Earlier in the year, an explosion happened at Abule Ado area of Lagos, where a school, Bethlehem Girls’ College, was affected as well as buildings in the area.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) had claimed that the explosion was caused after a truck hit some gas cylinders stacked in a gas processing plant located near the corporation’s system 2B Pipeline Right of Way, a claim which was later puntured by a BCC report.
