Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has relaxed the curfew imposed on Lagos State following the violence that broke out during #EndSARS protests in the state.
On the day the Governor announced a 24-hour restriction in movements in the metropolis, some soldiers marched to the Lekki Toll Gate, where some of the peaceful protesters had converged and opened fire on them.
The unfortunate incident, which is still under an investigation, led to the wanton destruction of some government and private properties in the state and left the commercial capital of Nigeria in ruins.
The 24-hour curfew was later eased and people were allowed to move from 6am to 8pm and on Friday, October 30, 2020, the Governor further relaxed it.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, it was disclosed that residents of Lagos can now move from 6am to 10pm.
According to the Commissioner, Mr Sanwo-Olu expressed satisfaction at the strict observance of the movement restriction and urged Lagosians to continue to go about their businesses in peace.
“The Lagos State Government has announced further relaxation of the curfew imposed after the breakdown of law and order, following the hijack of the peaceful #EndSARS protests. The curfew will now be from 10pm till 6am.
“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu praises Lagosians for observing the curfew, which is expected to restore normalcy in our communities. He urges all Lagosians to go about their businesses in peace, even as they shun ‘actions that can threaten our unity’.
“The Governor advises purveyors of fake news to stop causing disaffection among Lagosians, who are well known for being peace-loving and friendly,” the statement from Mr Omotoso said.
