Kaduna State Governor, Mr Nasir El-Rufai, has announced testing positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Governor made this announcement on Saturday evening in a video posted on the Twitter page of the Kaduna State Governor, urging residents of the state to continue to observe the stay-at-home order of government.

Mr El-Rufai said his sample was taken earlier in the week and when the result came today, it tested positive for the disease, which presently has no cure.

Earlier in the week, a top aide of President Muhammadu Buhari was reported to have tested positive for the virus and this put some state governors and ministers in panic because they came in contact with him.

Several of them were tested for the virus, with some coming out negative.

In the video posted today, Governor El-Rufai said he has no symptoms of COVID-19, but was following the guidelines put in place by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

“Earlier this week, I submitted a sample for COVID-19 test. The result came in this evening and I regret to say that it is positive.

“According to the protocols for managing COVID-19, I am in self isolation as required by the case management guidelines by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control for someone that is showing no symptoms.

“I wish to appeal to the people of Kaduna State to continue to closely observe the preventive measures already announced by our government.

“It is most important that everyone should do their utmost to stay safe, stay home and stay alive.

“The Deputy Governor is in charge of our task force for COVID-19.

“I will continue to issue statements from time to time. Thank you very much,” the Governor said in the video.
