The Governor of Oyo State, Mr Seyi Makinde, has tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday. He made the announcement via his official Twitter handle on Monday evening.

“I just received my COVID-19 confirmation test result. It is POSITIVE. I am asymptomatic and will continue to self-isolate.

“I have designated Professor Temitope Alonge, former Chief Medical Director of the University College, Ibadan, as the Head of COVID-19 Task Force while I recover fully.

“Please continue to comply with all the directives from the COVID-19 Task Force. Stay home, stay safe,” the Governor said.

Mr Makinde will be the third Nigerian governor to contract the contagion. Six days ago, Mr Bala Mohammed, the Bauchi State Governor, announced testing positive for the virus.

Last Saturday, the Governor of Kaduna State, Mr Nasir el-Rufai, also announced via his Twitter page that he has tested positive for the disease, which is causing global panic.
