Group Tells NBA, Police to Clampdown on Fake Lawyers

By Dipo Olowookere
A group of lawyers under the name Concerned Patriots Front (CPF) has called on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) to begin immediate action to curb menace of fake lawyers because they are growing in their numbers.
According to the group, the call has become necessary at this time due to rise in reports received on fraudulent activities perpetrated by these fake lawyers on unsuspecting Nigerians.
The group, exposing one Emmanuel Umohinyang as an example of fake lawyers, disclosed that “a certain Emmanuel Umohinyang and cronies of fake lawyers have established several fronts in a bid to swindle unsuspecting Nigerians, one of which is the re-elect Buhari Movement (RBM), whose national coordinator is another Goodluck Obi, an Independent Director at the Nigerian Police Mortgage Bank.”
“Findings have however revealed that that the said Mr Umohinyang has just graduated from the Department of Law at the National Open University Of Nigeria (NOUN) with the serial number: 231, as made available on the NOUN 2018 graduation list, with Matric Number: NOU110369681, but has not been to law school let alone graduating from one,” CPF added.
It was also gathered that Mr Umohinyang overtime has been parading himself as an as an Aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on Digital Strategy and Civil Society, dropping the names of the President and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Ibrahim Idris, to swindle unsuspecting members of the public. “We hereby call for the urgent intervention of the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigerian Bar Association to rescue innocent Nigerians by cracking-down these fake lawyers before they run the noble profession of law to the ground,” the group noted.

Enugu Accident: Dangote Fumes Over Unauthorised Use of Brand Identity

By Modupe Gbadeyanka
Dangote Industries Limited has expressed dissatisfaction over the unauthorised use of its brand identity by a truck said to belong to another company involved in a recent accident in Enugu State.
In a statement on Wednesday, the conglomerate said its truck was not involved in the road mishap that claimed lives, noting that it belonged to another firm known as Visco Investment Global Limited, a third-party operator.
It was earlier reported in the media (excluding Business Post) that a heavy-duty vehicle owned by Dangote Group crushed some people to death in Enugu.
However, in the statement, the firm dissociated itself from the unfortunate incident, rejecting “any attempt to exploit such tragedies for malicious or financial gain.”
“We are actively engaging with the appropriate agencies to determine why the truck in question was bearing our logo, despite not being part of our fleet,” it stated, noting that it “remains steadfast in upholding the highest standards of corporate responsibility, safety, and integrity in all our operations.”
“We remain committed to cooperating fully with the relevant authorities and urge that those tasked with investigating incidents of this nature be allowed to carry out their responsibilities without undue interference,” the statement added.
Dangote emphasised that, “Moving forward, increased scrutiny will be applied to the unauthorised use of our brand identity, particularly the misuse of our logo on vehicles not affiliated with the group,” advising “the public and media to refrain from circulating unverified claims.”
Dangote Group has been under public scrutiny in recent times, especially after one of its trucks claimed the life of one Ms Ruth Otabor, a relative of the former Big Brother Naija contestant, Ms Ijeoma Otabor, otherwise known as Phyna, in Auchi, Edo State.

Customs Seizes N377m Arms, Ammunition, Drones in Ogun, Ondo

By Adedapo Adesanya
Operatives of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have intercepted a cache of arms, ammunition, and two industrial drones, with a combined Duty Paid Value (DPV) of over N377 million.
Speaking to journalists at the FOU headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, the Unit Controller, Comptroller Mohammed Shuaibu, revealed that the seizures were made as part of ongoing operations to dismantle smuggling networks across the Southwest.
According to him, customs officers intercepted a Nissan Almera vehicle suspected to be carrying contraband via bush paths near Ilara, Ogun State. Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to contain 15 assorted rifles, including 14 JOJEF Magnum semi-automatic firearms (Italian-made) and one Mossberg pump-action shotgun (US-made, Serial No. P256630).
The firearms, many bearing serial numbers such as 22-0743, 602-H22YT-556, and 698-H21PT-24, were carefully concealed within bales of second-hand clothing and cartons of spaghetti.
The seizure also included 4,841 rounds of live ammunition, two bales and a sack of used clothing, and two cartons of Danu Spaghetti.
“Upon sighting our officers, the driver and a passenger abandoned the vehicle and fled into the bush,” Mr Shuaibu said.
In a separate operation along the Akure-Ore axis in Ondo State, another patrol team intercepted a Volkswagen Sprinter bus at about 0910hrs on August 9, 2025. The vehicle was found to be transporting two industrial drones concealed in a wooden box, without any valid documentation.
“One suspect was arrested in connection with this seizure,” Mr Shuaibu added.
He emphasized that the importation of arms, ammunition, and drones without proper documentation, including End User Certificates from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), is a clear violation of national security regulations.
Commending the professionalism and bravery of his officers, Mr Shuaibu said the successful operations were the result of strategic planning, intelligence gathering, and tactical execution.
He also called on Nigerians to support law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.
“In line with our commitment to inter-agency collaboration, the seized arms and ammunition will be handed over to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) for further investigation and possible prosecution,” he concluded.
