The constituency office of the member representing Ibadan North-East/South-East Federal Constituency, Mr Adedapo Lam Adesina, has been destroyed by thugs suspected to be loyal to a major political party in the state.
The suspected thugs swooped on the constituency office, located at Ile-Titun area of Ibadan South-East, using the cover of the night and properties worth hundreds of thousands destroyed or stolen.
Mr Lam Adesina, who was an arrowhead in the struggle for justice and fairness had been under threat of attacks for some time, is a candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the House of Representatives seat in the constituency.
The matter has since been reported to the police.
But the lawmaker, in a statement made available to newsmen, called on his supporters to remain calm and unprovoked, noting that no level of violence or assault from a sinking party could stop the ADC’s march to victory in the constituency and the state.
“We are saddened by this development. Some evil politicians think they can kill our spirit by destroying an office that has been in the service of the people; it is on record that I was the first lawmaker in the constituency to open two constituency offices. This was done to enable our people to have unrestricted access to us and they can testify that we have served them well in the last three and a half years. But some devilish individuals think by destroying the office, they can halt our march to victory? No.
“We know the party, which leaders and candidates indulge hoodlums. We know the party of violent people, whose main leader is also violent. The Nigerian Police should be reminded of my save our soul letter months ago on threat to my life by the powers that be in Oyo State.”
He stated further that “we will not be provoked by their desperation.”
“We urge our people to remain calm and to only speak with their votes on February 16 and March 2, 2019 by voting for the ADC,” Mr Lam Adesina said.
Also responding, residents of the constituency, who expressed dismay at how some politicians could become so desperate that they would destroy the office that has brought representation and good governance closer to the people, restated their resolve to keep supporting Lam Adesina, who they said has brought unparalleled development to the constituency.
