The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc (IBEDC) has announced the commencement of the revised service-based reflective tariff approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
A statement issued by the company’s Head Branding and Corporate Communications, Ms Angela Olanrewaju, disclosed that the new tariff became effective Sunday, November 1, 2020.
Recall that in September 2020, the federal government asked electricity distribution companies in the country to suspend the new prices of energy consumption after it held a meeting with labour unions.
A technical committee was later set up to review the September 1 cost-reflective tariffs and it was agreed that for three months (from November 2020 to January 2021), the federal government will pay an electricity subsidy to the service providers at N10.20 per kilowatt.
Under this arrangement, non-MD customers in Band A with a minimum of 20 hours daily will pay N51.22/Kwh, Band B customers with a minimum of 16 hours daily will pay N46.93/Kwh, while Band C customers with a minimum of 12 hours daily will pay N37.95/Kwh.
IBEDC, in the statement made available to newsmen, stated that customers on the pre-paid platform will be the first to experience the revised tariff whenever they vend in this month, while post-paid customers will have the revised tariff reflected in the electricity bills at the end of November.
“Customers on bands A, B & C will see some level of increase on their last month’s tariff as they vend, while customers on bands D & E have their tariff frozen,” Ms Olanrewaju said.
“IBEDC is also assuring its customers that we remain unequivocally committed to ensuring quality and improved service across our franchise,” she added.
“We appeal for the continued support and understanding of our esteemed customers as we begin the implementation of the revised service-centric tariff, developed to meet your yearnings for an improved and efficient electricity supply industry in Nigeria,” the company’s spokesperson said.
