The Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday sworn-in a new member-elect, Mr Obafemi Saheed, as a lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency II, sparking jubilation in his camp.
Mr Saheeed won the December 5, 2020, by-election to replace the late Mr Tunde Braimoh, who died in July 2020.
The Speaker of the House, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, said during the swearing-in ceremony that the Oath of Allegiance of Membership had been administered on the lawmaker-elect by the Head of the Legal Department of the assembly.
The Speaker beseeched that Mr Saheed’s tenure would bring development to his constituency and the state.
He said: “The event that brought you here will not happen again. We are happy to receive you as one of us and pray that you continue to abide by the oath of office you have taken.
“We are sure your presence here will contribute to the development of the House and the state.”
Mr Obasa, therefore, urged him to work together and cooperate with other members of the House in the interest of his constituency.
He urged him to get clarification from the office of the Speaker or that of the Clerk if he was not clear on any issue.
Until his death, the former occupant of the seat, Mr Braimoh, was the chairman of the House Committee on Information, Security and Strategy in the state parliament.
Mr Braimoh had also served in the parliament as the chairman House Committee on Judiciary, Petitions, and Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).
He had also in his capacity served as a one-time chairman of Kosofe Local Government Area, now known as Ikosi-Isheri Local Council.
Mr Saheed, a candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), polled 12,494 votes in the December 5 election to beat his closest rival, Mr Sikiru Alebiosu, of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who got only 2,068 votes.
Other parties such as AA got 31, votes, ADC, 90 votes, AAC 97, LP 21, NNPP 14, and NRM 8 out of the 15,124 total votes cast in the Kosofe state constituency by-election.
