The Chairman of Surulere local government council, Mr Tajudeen Ajide, has been asked to return to his office after the suspension placed on him was lifted.

On May 4, 2021, the Lagos State House of Assembly suspended the council chairman along with two others; Mr Ogidan Mukandasi Olaitan of the Lekki LCDA and Mr Suleiman Jelili of the Alimosho local government area.

Their temporary removal from office followed a motion moved by a lawmaker representing Alimosho Constituency 01 at the state assembly, Mr Bisi Yusuff, against the three council leaders.

They were accused of going against the rules guiding local government administration and being rude.

“Total disregard for the local government guideline is something that should not be tolerated.

“We cannot continue like this. We can’t be breeding monsters in our local government councils.

“This will also serve as a deterrent. We have received many petitions from councillors,” the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Mudashiru Obasa had said when the matter was tabled on May 4.

But at the plenary on Tuesday, the Speaker informed the House that the Surulere council chairman has written to apologise for his errors, appealing for forgiveness.

He further said several meetings had been held by the relevant committee of the House over the allegations against the restated chairman.

However, he emphasised that the Lekki LCDA and Alimosho council bosses remain suspended as their issues were yet to be resolved.

The Speaker noted that the Alimosho council chairman refused to hand over to the vice-chairman after he was suspended as directed, asking the two lawmakers from the area, Mr Yusuff and Mr Kehinde Joseph, to investigate and report back to the House.
