Owners of all boats in the boat yard on Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi (at the junction of Iru Close) have been directed to remove them with immediate effect.
This order was given by the Lagos State Special Committee on Clean Up of Ikoyi and Victoria Island in a statement issued on Monday by its Chairman, Mr Tunji Bello.
Mr Bello warned owners of boats and vehicle parked within the yard to remove them within 21 days from today or face the full wrath of the law, stating that the order, which is part of the Clean- up mandate of the committee, becomes necessary following complaints and representations from members of the public and residents of the area on the unwholesome activities going on in the location.
The committee Chairman added that investigation revealed that the boat yard has become a den of miscreants, drug dealers, prostitutes, gangs and petty traders, attracting patrons who also engage in all forms of illegal parking on the road.
He stated that some of the residents of the area have also complained that while women sell local gin (ogogoro) at the stalls during the day, miscreants hide inside the boat yard at night and harass car owners and joggers at will.
The Chairman reiterated the commitment of the committee to carry out its responsibility of ensuring that all environmental nuisances that may endanger the lives of residents are removed in a steady and systematic manner.
