The Lagos State government has reopened the famous Third Mainland Bridge, which is one of the three bridges that connect the mainland part of the metropolis with the island.

The longest bridge in the country was temporarily closed on Thursday for an investigative maintenance test, but was reopened on Sunday evening after completion of the test.

It was gathered that the test was to determine which parts of the bridge needed urgent attention.

Information reaching Business Post showed that details of the examination would be sent to Italy for analysis, while possible repairs might be done by the end of this year or early next year.

A statement issued today by the Permanent Secretary in the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Dr Taiwo Salaam, disclosed that the decision to reopen the bridge on Sunday earlier than announced followed the completion of the test by engineers.

The government also thanked motorists and residents for their cooperation and patience while the closure lasted.

The investigative maintenance test was carried out by the state government in partnership with the federal government.
