The acting governor of Ondo State, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has been sworn-in as the new Governor of Ondo State.
He took the oath of office on Wednesday after following the death of his principal, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, in the week hours of today.
He was sworn in this evening by the Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Olusegun Odusola, in Akure, the state capital at about a few minutes past 5.
Before becoming the acting governor of Ondo State, Mr Aiyedatiwa was the deputy to the deceased.
A few weeks ago, he was battling to save his job after the Ondo State House of Assembly attempted to impeach him after the return of the late Mr Akeredolu from a medical trip from Germany in September.
It took the intervention of President Bola Tinubu to calm the tension. He had acted as governor when his late boss embarked on a medical leave abroad.
Mr Aiyedatiwa was elected as the Deputy Governor of Ondo State in 2020. He was serving Mr Akerodolu, who was re-elected to serve his second term of four years.
Mr Akeredolu died on Wednesday morning at the age of 67 after suffering from cancer and leukemia, according to multiple reports.
