Some Nigerians have expressed their displeasure over a fresh hike in the prices of DStv and GOtv packages by MultiChoice Nigeria, owners of the pay television platforms.

In a notice to its customers on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, the company said the new price increase would be effective Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

MultiChoice in the message noted that it understands “the impact this change may have on you, our valued customer,” but the decision to raise the fees for the packages was due to the rise in the cost of business operations.

The firm said DStv subscribers will have to pay N37,000 for the premium bouquet from next Wednesday versus the current fee of N29,500, while the Compact+ package will cost N25,000 versus N19,800.

It further disclosed that the Compact bundle will cost N15,700 versus N12,500, as the Confam package has been raised to N9,300 from N7,400, and Yanga will now be N5,100 instead if N4,200.

In addition, the Padi bouquet will now go for N3,600 per month compared with the current N2,950, while the HDPVR access service, Access fees, and XtraView will cost N5,000 versus N4,000, respectively.

As for the GOtv package, the Supa+ bouquet has been raised to N15,700 from N12,500, Supa will now be N9,600 versus the current N7,600, Max will cost N7,200 versus N5,700, Joli will go for N4,850 versus N3,950, Jinja subscribers will now pay N3,300 and not the old price of N2,700, and Smallie subscribers will cough out N1,575 instead of the current N1,300.

MultiChoice assured its customers that it remains committed to providing the best entertainment and viewing experience for subscribers.

Reacting to this development, some Nigerians on X said they may be forced to shop for alternatives, as the platform is only popular for showing live English Premier League matches and old movies.

“No need to cuss you people out. Apart from football, your platform is usel*ss anyway. Don’t worry, una go call me tire without response. Be increasing price every six months, una hear? One of them wrote.
