A former Governor of Plateau State, Mr Joshua Dariye, has been found guilty of misappropriating N1.16 billion Ecological Fund meant for the state.

The money was diverted by Mr Dariye while he was Governor of the state from 1999 to 2007.

He was convicted on Tuesday by Justice Adebukola Banjoko of a Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Abuja.

In 2007, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned the former Governor on a 23-count charge.

The EFCC accused Mr Dariye of using his office to siphon money out of the country, through various accounts and also diverting funds to the Peoples Democratic Party in the state while in office.

The convict, a serving senator, left the opposition PDP in 2016 to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
