President Muhammadu Buhari will address the nation on Thursday, October 1, 2020, a statement from the presidency on Wednesday has announced.
However, the address will not be in the form of the usual 7am nationwide broadcast.
According to the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, tomorrow’s speech will be from the Eagle Square.
On Thursday, October 1, 2020, Nigeria will mark her 60th anniversary of independence in 1960 and activities have been lined up to celebrate the diamond jubilee.
In the statement issued on Wednesday afternoon, Mr Adesina said the speech by Mr Buhari will be delivered at an event slated for 10 am on Thursday.
“As part of activities commemorating the 60th independence anniversary of the country, President Muhammadu Buhari will address the nation from the Eagle Square, Abuja, on Thursday, October 1, 2020.
“The live address will commence after the anniversary parade beginning at 10am which will be covered by major television and radio stations especially the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN),” the statement said.
Concluding, Mr Adesina stressed that “in view of the open-air live address, the traditional early morning October 1 presidential broadcast will not feature on Thursday.”
