The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has commenced training on multi-dimensional fire skills and other safety measures for senior staff members.
The one-week retreat, which took off on Monday, October 4, is to equip participants with hands-on skills in handling the management of fire safety and other related emergencies.
The service, in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, Mr Ugo Huan, disclosed that the training will be facilitated by one of its consulting firms, Vail Consultant Limited.
Speaking on the commencement of the capacity building, the Controller General, Federal Fire Service, Mr Liman Ibrahim, revealed that the retreat focuses on enabling the participants to know the roles and responsibilities of fire chief officers.
He said the training will also expand their knowledge on some salient areas of the public service rules, the fire service rules and regulations, and major incident management procedures, amongst others.
According to the statement, “Dr Liman as always, aired his unreserved appreciation to the government of President Muhammadu Buhari who has turned a favourable sight to the service since 2016 with the duo of the former Minister of Interior, [Mr Abdulrahman Bello] Dambazau and the current Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola for their unflinching support and commitment scaling the service to exponential growth.”
The Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, while delivering his flag-off speech at the event, urged the participants to yield themselves to the training, and to also apply the knowledge impact on their work hereafter.
The Minister, who was represented by the Director, Joint Services, Mr Peter Egbodo, lauded the initiative of the Controller General for the training as it provides an avenue for strategic thinking to chart a better future for the agency as well as firefighters in the country.
