NMDPRA, NNPC Target Gas Development, Operational Efficiency
By Adedapo Adesanya
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited have identified gas development, operational efficiency and regulatory improvements as key areas of collaboration to strengthen Nigeria’s petroleum industry.
The commitment was made during a meeting in Abuja between the chief executive of NMDPRA, Mr Rabiu Abdullahi Umar, and his NNPC counterpart, Mr Bayo Ojulari.
According to the downstream regulator, discussions at the meeting focused on gas development, capacity building, the resolution of operational challenges and improved regulatory efficiency.
Mr Umar said the authority was committed to strengthening its strategic relationship with NNPC Limited to enhance operational efficiency and support the growth of the petroleum industry.
Both organisations emphasised the need for closer cooperation to address industry challenges and improve performance across the midstream and downstream segments of the petroleum sector.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of effective regulation and a business-friendly operating environment in supporting industry growth.
The renewed engagement comes as both institutions play significant roles in Nigeria’s gas development and petroleum supply chain, with their operations affecting the availability of gas and petroleum products across the economy.
However, the organisations did not disclose specific agreements, proposed projects, implementation timelines or measurable targets arising from the meeting.
The impact of the collaboration will therefore depend on the concrete measures adopted by both institutions to address operational bottlenecks, improve regulatory processes and advance gas development.
NMDPRA said the meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both organisations to advancing Nigeria’s petroleum industry through strategic partnership, effective regulation and sustainable growth.
