Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has disclosed that he has tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The Governor revealed the result of his COVID-19 test on his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday afternoon, adding that he is asymptomatic and not displaying any symptoms of the virus.
He tweeted, “Today I tested positive for #COVID19.
“All is well. I’m asymptomatic and have been self-isolating. Work continues. Your continued prayers over my well being are most appreciated.”
This latest development is coming three weeks to the governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Arakunrin Akeredolu, as he likes to be addressed, will be the fifth governor in Nigeria to contract the deadly virus.
Earlier, Mr Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State, Mr Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Mr Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, and Mr Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State have tested positive for the contagion.
However, only three of them have recovered from COVID-19, with Mr Ikpeazu still receiving treatment from medical experts dealing with the virus at an isolation centre.
