Oyo Sets Up Panel Help Orphans, Vulnerable Children

A technical steering committee has been inaugurated by the Oyo State government to ensure the sustainability of the planned programmes for orphans and vulnerable children in the state.

Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community Development, Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Atinuke Ogunkoya, said at the inauguration that the state government accords priority to issues relating to orphans and vulnerable children and was always ready to consider ways on how they could be supported.

According to her, the capacity of the state government via the Ministry of Women Affairs is to lead the team to ensure the total commitment of various stakeholders which requires technical input of technocrats from various sectors.

Mrs ogunkoya applauded the implementing partners which included the Coordinating Comprehensive Care for Children and the Aids Preventive Initiative Nigeria (APIN), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and orphanage/children home operators.

Earlier, permanent secretary in the ministry, Mrs Foluso Sali, commended stakeholders present at the event and enjoined them to support government by reporting any child lacking alternative family care such as children with disabilities, among others.
