The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of a crypto tycoon, Mr Linus Williams Ifejika, otherwise known as Blord.
There were reports on Monday that the celebrity cryptocurrency trader was apprehended and detained by the police in Abuja.
Today, the spokesman of the police, Mr Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed in a statement that the entrepreneur was truly in the custody of the security agency.
Mr Adejobi said that Blord was being investigated over complaints lodged against him by a yet-to-be-identified person(s).
But the police image-maker assured that due diligence would be done in the interrogation of the 26-year-old businessman, who is the chief executive of Blord Group of Companies, Blord Real Estate Ltd, Blord Jetpaye Limited, and Billpoint Technology.
He disclosed that the offences the suspect was accused of committing included “cryptocurrency fraud, aiding internet fraud, computer-related fraud, terrorism funding, and non-compliance with regulatory frameworks.”
The statement emphasised that, “Our cyberspace in Nigeria must be safe and secured by all means. We are committed to achieving that.”
This is not the first time Blord has had issues with security operatives. He had earlier been with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which accused him of fraud, but he defeated the agency at the court, where he proved his source of wealth was from crypto trading.
