Nine suspected kidnappers have been apprehended in Rivers State by the Police Command in the state.
The suspects were arrested at different locations in Rivers State and were allegedly responsible for most kidnappings in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
A statement issued by the Force spokesman, DCP Don Awunah, disclosed that a team of policemen in Rivers State, on October 12, 2016, after a tip off, launched a massive “onslaught on the kidnappers of some residents of GRA Phase II, Port Harcourt main town, Borikiri General Area and YKC axis of Woji” in the state.
He gave the names of the apprehended suspects as:
- Daniel Gabriel ‘M’ 33 Years (gang leader)
- Alaso Igodo ‘M’ 23 Years
iii. Akeodi Aselemi ‘M’ 34 Years
- Ayibinmoter Livinus ‘M’ 25 Years
- Anikunka Anikunka ‘M’ 33 Years
vi Biebele Elijah ‘M’ 34 Years
vii. Efiya Anda ‘M’ 34 Years
viii. Daniel Lessor ‘M’ 31 Years
ix . Isaac Reuben ‘M’ 27 Years.
Also, the following items were recovered from the accused persons:
- One (1) AKA 47 Rifle with bridge NO. 0731
- Four (4) AKA 47 Magazines with 42 live ammunitions
iii. Four (4) Face Mask
- One (1) Green Mazda Saloon car used by the syndicate as operational vehicle.
Mr Awunah disclosed in the statement that the Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has assured Nigerians that the Nigeria Police Force was ever ready and more determined to make sure that all those who engage in vicious crime such as kidnappings, armed robbery and other criminal activities do not escape justice.
The IGP has restated the commitment of the Nigeria Police in ensuring that all forms of crimes and particularly kidnap for ransom and other violent crimes are brought to a bearable and tolerable state throughout the country.
He urged Nigerians to always be law abiding and see themselves as stakeholders in the fight against crime and criminality.
