President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the ongoing re-organisation at the presidency was aimed at enhancing service delivery to Nigerians. Mr Buhari said this via a statement issued by one of his spokespersons, Mr Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Saturday.

The statement noted that the President, while fielding questions from State House Correspondents, shortly after his arrival at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja from London on Friday night, said, ”It is unfortunate that the recent disengagement of some political appointees from the presidency had been given ‘ethnic and political interpretations.”

“They said 35 people were sacked in the Vice President’s office. We just created some ministries and we re-organised and people are giving it ethnic and political dimensions. It is unfortunate,” Mr Buhari was quoted as saying in the statement.

Speaking on the next step after his return from the United Kingdom, President Buhari stated that, ‘‘We are going to work harder and be accountable.

“We have tried to make Nigerians understand why we do certain things. Accountability from bottom to top is absolutely necessary.

‘‘Whoever is responsible for government property, should know it is public property, it is not personal and he has to manage it according to the law.

‘‘That’s what I expect and I think that we have been around long enough to impress on people that we mean what we say,” the President was further quoted.

MrBuhari was scheduled to go on a 15–day “private visit” in the United Kingdom since November 2, and was due to return on Sunday, November 17.gun

He however returned to Nigeria on Friday, November 15, 2019, after his “private visit” to the UK.
