A 22-year-old worker at the Primary Health Care Centre in the Girei local council area of Adamawa State has allegedly committed suicide.
The deceased, identified as Miss Florence Vandi, was said to have taken her life after her boyfriend, Mr Nuhu Boniface, died in the hospital while receiving treatment.
It was said that the late Miss Vandi, an indigene of Michika LGA, who resides at Viniklang in the Girei Local Government Area, died after ingesting a popular brand of pesticide known as Sniper.
According to reports, the unfortunate incident happened on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, after receiving the news of her lover’s demise.
“The deceased took the unfortunate decision a few hours after the death of her boyfriend, the late Mr Nuhu Boniface, who died while receiving treatment at the hospital.
“Investigation further revealed that until her death, Miss Florence was a health worker attached to Girei Primary Health Care Centre,” a statement issued by the PPRO of Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Afolabi Babatola, who expressed sadness over the incident, advised members of the public to avoid taking laws into their own hands and report any suspicious movement around their neighbourhood to the police.
