Lagos to Reform Health Sector with Medical Park

The Lagos State Government has disclosed that it plans to set up a medical park along Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, as part of initiatives to reform the health sector in the state and build facilities that meet global standards.

It was stated that the facility will cover 2,175 hectares of land in the area and would be executed by the Office of Public-Private Partnerships (OPPP) in conjunction with the Lagos Ministry of Health.

The Director-General of the OPPP, Mr Ope George, said the identified portion of land used to house the School of Nursing but would be developed into an ultra-modern medical centre with state-of-the-art equipment and infrastructure.

Mr George said the medical park would provide a full range of excellent and quality healthcare services with cutting edge technology, medical specialists and diagnostic services under a PPP structure.

As revealed by him, the medical park will comprise 120 to 150-bed spaces and provide services that would be targeted towards specific needs.

He further asserted that the infrastructure will encourage medical tourism in Lagos State, as residents would no longer need to travel abroad for treatment.

Services set to be provided at the forthcoming medical park include outpatient and inpatient clinics, diagnostic services, which will facilitate the provision of timely, cost-effective, and high-quality diagnostic care in a safe and secure environment.

Also, the medical centre is set to offer paediatrics and neonatology, which will specialise in the care of infants, including children, and adolescents.

According to the Director, the park will also facilitate internal medicine, gastroenterology and neurology, cardiology, radiology, obstetrics and gynaecology, oncology, orthopaedics and traumatology.
