A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mrs Sarah Alade, has been appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as his Special Adviser on Finance and Economy.
The selection of Mrs Alade was announced on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, by Mr Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr (Mrs) Sarah Omotunde Alade, as Special Adviser to the President on Finance and the Economy, domiciled in the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning,” Mr Garba said in the statement released by him.
“Dr Alade, who holds BSc (Economics) and PhD in Management Science (Operations Research), retired from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as Deputy Governor in 2017 after spending 23 years in the apex bank.
“She had also acted briefly in 2014 as the CBN Governor,” he added.
Mrs Alade was the acting governor of the apex bank during the suspension of Mr Lamido Sanusi, the present Emir of Kano, until his tenure ended.
She was appointed to the post by President Goodluck Jonathan on February 20, 2014 until the appointment of the present CBN chief, Mr Godwin Emefiele.
Prior to this time, she had served as deputy governor (Economic Policy) of the nation’s central bank from March 26, 2007.
