Buhari Removes Muiz Banire as AMCON Chairman, Appoints Adamu

A day after the replacement of Mr Babatunde Fowler with Mr Muhammadu Nami as the Executive Chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Senate to confirm Mr Edward Lametek Adamu as the new chairman of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

Mr Buhari, in a letter addressed to the upper chamber of the National Assembly on Tuesday, asked the red chamber’s consent to replace the board formerly headed by Mr Banire with Mr Adamu.

This change is in effect with the implementation of the new AMCON Act, which stipulates that the AMCON chairman has to be a deputy governor the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), a post not previously held by the chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from Lagos State.

In the letter, President Buhari also named other members of the board of the FIRS which is made up of James Yakwen Ayuba (North Central), Ado Danjuma (North West), Adam Baba Mohammed (North East), A. Ikeme Osakwe (South East), Adewale Ogunyomade (South West) and Ehile Adetola Aigbangbee (South South).

The representatives of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) were also named by the President. These are:  Ladidi Bara’atu Mohammed (Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation), Godwin Emefiele (Central Bank of Nigeria) and Fatima Z. Hayatu (Ministry of Finance).

Others include Maagbe S. Adaa (Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission), Umar Ajiya (Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation), Deputy Comptroller General T.M. Isah (Nigeria Customs Service) and the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission.

Mr Edward Lamekek Adamu was appointed Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria on March 23, 2018. He graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1981 where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (Bsc.) Honours degree in Quantity Surveying with Second Class Upper Division.

He also obtained Post-graduate certifications in Project & Programme Management, Strategy Management, Credit Administration, Knowledge Management and Human Resource Management. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and the Institute of Credit Administration.
