NNPC Grows Workforce by 12% to 6,247 in Q4 2025

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited saw its workforce rise by 12.2 per cent to 6,247 at the end of 2025 from 5,566 in the corresponding period of 2024, according to its latest employee data.

The state oil firm stated that its employees increased by 14.3 per cent from 5,495  recorded at the end of the first quarter of 2025 to 6,280 at the end of the second quarter of 2025.

Its staff strength, however, dropped by 0.11 per cent to 6,273 workers in the third quarter of 2025 and further shrank by 0.41 per cent to 6,247 in the last quarter of the year under review.

Giving a breakdown of its workforce in terms of gender, the NNPC disclosed that at the end of the fourth quarter, 5,044 employees, representing 80.7 per cent of its workforce, were males, while 1,203 employees, representing 19.3 per cent of its total workforce, were females.

Further breakdown revealed that Junior Staff 2 (JS 2) and Junior Staff 1 (JS1) cadres had one staff member and 175 staff members, respectively, at the end of the fourth quarter of 2025, as against one staff and 187 staff members, respectively, recorded in the third quarter of 2025.

In addition, the Senior Staff Seven (SS7) cadre had 31 employees, remaining the same as in the previous quarter, while the SS6 cadre dropped to 1,010 staff, from 1,012 staff recorded at the end of the third quarter of 2025.

The SS5, SS4, SS3, SS2 and SS1 staff cadre recorded 1,076 staff, 164 staff, 389 staff, 471 staff and 1,829 staff, respectively, in the quarter under review, compared with 1,076 staff, 164 staff, 391 staff, 478 staff and 1,835 staff, respectively, recorded in the third quarter of 2025.

Management Six (M6) cadre had 695 staff in the second quarter of 2025, compared with 699 staff in the same category in the previous quarter, while M5, M4, M3, M2 and M1 cadres had 237 staff, 117 staff, 47 staff, seven staff and one staff respectively, compared with 243 staff, 116 staff, 44 staff, seven staff and one staff in the corresponding cadres in the third quarter of 2025.

Further analysis of the NNPC workforce across different cadres showed that JS2 and JS1 accounted for 0.02 per cent and 2.75 per cent of its total workforce, respectively, while SS7, SS6, SS5, SS4, SS3, SS2 and SS1 cadres accounted for 0.50 per cent, 16.17 per cent, 17.22 per cent, 2.63 per cent, 6.23 per cent, 7.54 per cent and 29.28 per cent of the state oil company’s total workforce, respectively.

In addition, NNPC’s M6, M5, M4, M3, M2 and M1 cadres accounted for 11.13 per cent, 3.79 per cent, 1.87 per cent, 0.75 per cent, 0.11 per cent and 0.02 per cent, respectively.

In general, the NNPC Limited noted that it had 173 employees in its junior staff category; 4,970 employees in its senior staff category, and 1,104 employees in its management category.

It also reported that in its middle management cadre, it has 932 employees, accounting for 14.92 per cent of its total workforce, while the top management cadre had 172 employees, accounting for 2.75 per cent of its total workforce.

John Ternus to Become Next Apple CEO as Tim Cook Steps Down

Apple, makers of the iPhone and iPad, said on Monday that Mr Tim Cook will step down as the company’s chief executive, after 15 years at the helm. Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, Mr John Ternus, will take the top executive position on September 1.

Mr Cook, who succeeded the late Steve Jobs in 2011, will not leave Apple but will remain at the company as executive chairman, and Mr Ternus will join Apple’s board of directors.

Mr Arthur Levinson, who has served as Apple’s non-executive chairman for the past 15 years, will become lead independent director, also effective September 1.

Mr Cook expanded his predecessor’s vision after he died of pancreatic cancer just six weeks after formally handing off the job. He grew Apple into a $4 trillion business with annual revenue that has more than quadrupled on his watch.

A statement said Mr Cook turned Apple Services into a business exceeding $100 billion annually and credits him with creating the flourishing wearables category at Apple.

“It has been the greatest privilege of my life to be the CEO of Apple,” Mr Cook said in the statement on Monday. “I love Apple with all of my being, and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with a team of such ingenious, innovative, creative, and deeply caring people who have been unwavering in their dedication to enriching the lives of our customers.”

Mr Ternus, who joined Apple in 2001, has played a central role in reviving products such as the Mac, which has gained market share against personal computers. Though he has kept a low public profile, he has been deeply involved in shaping Apple’s biggest products, such as iPads and AirPods.

The incoming CEO, Mr Ternus, said: “Having spent almost my entire career at Apple, I have been lucky to have worked under Steve Jobs and to have had Tim Cook as my mentor,” he said. “I am humbled to step into this role, and I promise to lead with the values and vision that have come to define this special place for half a century.”

On his part, Mr Cook said of his successor, “John Ternus has the mind of an engineer, the soul of an innovator, and the heart to lead with integrity and with honour,” he said. “He is without question the right person to lead Apple into the future.”

DCP Aliyu Abubakar Heads Police Monitoring Unit After Restructuring

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Tunji Disu, has restructured the Police Monitoring Unit and appointed Mr Aliyu Abubakar as the new head.

Mr Abubakar is a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) who once served at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in both the FCT and Rivers State Police Commands, where he played critical roles in high-profile investigations.

During this period, he worked closely with state leadership to modernise investigative techniques and strengthen operational effectiveness. He is widely regarded by peers and stakeholders as a community-oriented and professional officer, noted for promoting transparency and engagement in policing.

In a statement on Monday by the police spokesman, Mr Anthony Okon Placid, also a DCP, it was disclosed that the reorganisation of the team was to ensure operational effectiveness, strengthen internal oversight, and reinforce discipline across the Nigeria Police Force.

The restructuring was necessitated by the need to refocus the squad on its core mandate, address identified operational inefficiencies, and reposition it as a credible and effective internal accountability mechanism within the Force.

As part of the reorganisation, the unit has been streamlined and strengthened to enhance proactive monitoring, intelligence-driven inspections, and real-time oversight of police personnel and operations across Commands, Formations, and Departments. The restructured framework also harmonises key investigative and monitoring functions in line with the Force’s reform agenda.

Mr Disu emphasised that the reform was geared towards entrenching professionalism, discipline, and transparency within the Force, noting that the monitoring team will play a central role in identifying operational lapses, enforcing standards, and ensuring accountability at all levels.

The NPF reiterates its commitment to sustained reforms, institutional development, and the delivery of a more accountable, professional, and citizen-focused policing system.

The publisher of Citizen Magazine and Citizen NewsNG, Mr Olabode Adeyeri, has been appointed as the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Lagos Island Local Government Chairman, Mr Taiwo Ajibade Oyekan.

The council boss disclosed that the appointment of the seasoned journalist, writer, and communications professional reflects his administration’s commitment to effective governance through strategic communication.

Business Post gathered that the appointment of Mr Adeyeri became effective on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

The appointee will use his extensive experience in media practice and public engagement to strengthen the local government’s communication framework, enhance transparency, and improve the dissemination of policies and programmes to the public.

“The appointment of Mr Adeyeri is a deliberate step towards strengthening our engagement with the public and ensuring that our policies and programmes are communicated clearly and effectively.

“We are confident that his wealth of experience in journalism and communications will further improve transparency and deepen public trust in our administration,” Mr Oyekan was quoted as saying in a statement.

“We believe Mr Adeyeri will play a key role in projecting the vision of this administration and strengthening the bridge between the government and the people,” the council chief added.

Mr Adeyeri holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Olabisi Onabanjo University and a Master’s degree from the University of Lagos. Between 2011 and 2018, he worked with Globacom Nigeria Limited, where he served as Corporate Support Executive and Glo 1 Business Support Executive.

He established Citizen Communications Network in 2010. The company publishes Citizen Magazine and Citizen NewsNG.
