Professor Umar Garba Danbatta has been removed as the executive vice chairman and chief executive of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The NCC chief was removed from the position by President Bola Tinubu and replaced with Mr Aminu Maida, who is expected to take charge with “immediate effect.”

A statement signed on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Ajuri Ngelale, also said that Mr Tinubu has approved the appointment of Tola Odeyemi as the Postmaster-General/CEO of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), replacing Mr Adepoju Sunday.

Further, he has appointed Ms Nkechi Egerton-Idehen as the CEO of the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT), while Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi is the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), with Mr Vincent Olatunji chosen as the National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

“In line with President Bola Tinubu’s determination to maximally leverage Nigeria’s proven technological and digital economic prowess to reposition the nation’s economy toward greater financial inclusion, the President has approved the appointment of a new Special Adviser to the President.

“Special Adviser to the President on Technology and Digital Economy [is] Idris Alubankudi.

“By this directive of the President, the above-mentioned appointments take immediate effect,” Mr Ngelale said in the statement.
